Girlfriend and curse of the bib.
In late November of 1996, I had found a new job in Florham Park, NJ, in a print shop. It was a real chore for me trying to get up there every morning, since I had to either take 2 buses; the 31 & the 70, or the train from South Orange to Summit, & then the 70, from the Summit train station. It was a F/T position. A little while after I began work over there, I decided to try my luck, by placing an ad in the Newark Star Ledger. So, I placed a relatively small standard sized ad, & it looked similar to this following format: 5'11"/225LB/Short Blk. Hr/ Big brn eyes/Know how to treat a lady. I never really received any responses, until around the early Spring time. So, along came Spring, & Bam! I got a voice message at the Star Ledger Personals area. I received a message from a nice lady (over the phone nice) of Greek background. We talked for about a week, & we decided to meet up for lunch in the town of Woodbridge, NJ, for lunch. She understood that I commute by public transportation, so with that in mind, I went on my merry way to Newark Penn station after work via the 31 bus route from Florham Park, NJ, & cought the NEC (North East Corridor) train to Metro Park, NJ, in the town of Iselin. That one segment of the trip, took me approximately 25 minutes, on the train. The bus trip alone, took me an hour, all the way from Florham Park. It was a long, tiring trip. I met her at the train station, waiting for me, driving her parent's car, which was a white Dodge Intrepid. We decided to go to a restaraunt in the area, called: "Bennigans." It's a nice place to eat at. When we got to the restaraunt & parked, I brought along some of my drawings to share with her, in the parking lot of the facility, so I unraveled a few to show her. she appeared to like them, but lookeda bit bland about my work, but it was all good, anyway. She placed her order, & I placed mine, for ribs. Her & I were talk'n along, & our orders came out. In preparation for gobbling up my ribs, I put on a bib, obvously to protect my shirt. So after we finished dinner, I offered to pay the bill naturally, as a guy's brought up to do. Her response was really cute. Twirling her long black hair, she said: "Oh, that's so sweeeet." Which, made me feel really good, inside. After I payed the bill, she drove me back to the Metro Park train station, where I would catch NJ transit, back to Newark, Penn Station. When we arrived at Metro Park, we said our good-byes, but ... I got NO kiss on the cheek, or so much as a 'thank you!' I mean ... But it gets better, later. -- I mean I know I'm not a financial prize package, but geez! It would have been nice, I thought. I only paid for her with money I really didn't have. Sheesh. After I got home hours later, I got a call from her. She started getting into how I unraveled my drawings to her in her car, & how "I ought to get to know someone 1st" as she put it. Also, She didn't like how when my ribs were placed down in front of me, I put on a bib, to protect my shirt. I said to her: "So that's why you're judging me, because I put on a bib to eat my ribs? Are you kidding me?" She paused for a moment, & gave me this bullshit about it, I just hung the phone up, in disgust. However, I did call back the next day to give my opinions of her raunchy attitude towards me, with a few nice choice words, to boot.
